On October 27, 1935, the Viceroy of India - Lord Wellington inaugurated it. Lord Halifax, the President of the British Board of Education selected A. E. Foot, a master at Eton College as Doon School?s first Headmaster. The founder of the school was Mr. S. R. Das. The current principal of the school is Mr. John Mason.
An area of 28 hectares of woods and greenery, located in the cantonment. The campus houses the teaching and non-teaching staff. With over 100 varieties of trees and abundant bird life, it is a real treat to walk through. Known as Chand Bagh, this use to be the Indian Forest College campus.
The Doon School believes in the philosophy ? to admit children of all castes, creeds, religions and colour without any distinction. The Doon School is not in favour of corporeal punishment or any disciplinary action that is humiliating for the child. The school offers all one needs, in addition to academics, to help the children to develop and grow.

Products :
The School offers, Class X - Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and the Class XII - Indian School Certificate (ISC) Examination. Monthly tests are conducted and assessments are done periodically. The School Report Cards are marked out of five and Industry, Achievement and Efficiency are all graded. We also offer sports, extra curricular activities, and scholarships. Sports : Games are compulsory. Boys are encouraged to give their best and the development of team spirit is encouraged. There is a choice of Yoga or P.T. In the mornings. Depending on the season, the boys play Cricket, Hockey and Football. Optional sports include Tennis, Squash, Basketball, Volleyball, Swimming Boxing, Athletics and Archery. Extra Curricular : Include Royal Life Saving Society Tests, Duke of Edinburgh Award Programme (now known as IAYP) and First Aid Course of the St. John?s Ambulance Brigade. Dignity of labour is actively encouraged. Boys put in 2 hours of Service every week. They can choose village development, adult education, child education, working in homes for the handicapped and mentally retarded, tree planting and gardening. Two hours per week are allotted to hobbies like Carpentry, Metal Craft, Motor Mechanics, Electronics, Philately, Aero-modelling, Stone Sculpture, Wood Sculpture, Batik, Pottery, Screen Printing, etc. There is a full-fledged Art School and a Music School where Vocal, Tabla, Sitar, Sarod, Flute, Piano and Guitar are taught. Creative minded boys contribute to the ?Doon School Weekly?, ?Echo?, ?Arpan? and other school publications. Each term has a mid-term break of 5 days in which boys go on expeditions, Cycling, Trekking, Camping and Rafting. Scholarships Part scholarships / Bursaries are available from a Bursary Fund created from donations by well wishers and a few Bursaries are available from specific annual endowments made by Old Boys of the school. Every effort is being made to increase the number of Bursaries every year so that children from all levels of society can enjoy the good education the school offers. Inquiries regarding award of Bursaries may be made to the Headmaster.
