Here is an attractively packaged, interactive and fun-filled learning program that has been developed to enable children, between four and seven years of age, to read and write at the primary level. Children with no prior knowledge of the alphabets will be comfortably reading books meant for the first grade after completing this comprehensive program. More importantly, they will enjoy as they learn! Animation and music helps to make this a dynamic learning environment.
The Reading Club is divided in two learning modules. Each module comprises a series of lessons, supporting games, and special tools that combine quality educational experience with the very latest in home computer technology, advanced animations, and colourful visuals to make it conducive to overall learning.
The rationale
This program is designed for children with or without adequate English language development. Primarily, it targets schools and educationally aware homes.
Many children begin learning to read at home between the ages of four and six through informal parental guidance and instructions from brothers and sisters. In most cases the child is immersed in a rich language and print environment where reading is strongly encouraged and frequently modelled. Rhymes, songs, and word play lead to alphabet books and charts, picture books, and primers from which the child acquires the ability to sight words, scan from left-to-right and to do some basic decoding.

The program comprises two CD-ROMs:
Reading Club 1 - Reading Readiness (60 lessons)
In this module, teaching takes a new dimension, where children are introduced into a realm where learning is fun. The fundamental concepts of print, the alphabet, and basic comprehension skills are stressed here. The children are encouraged to build patterns and recognise shapes and objects. Proper eye movement from left to right to facilitate instant recognition of the English text will automatically be learnt.
Reading Club 2 - Initial Reading and Writing (72 lessons)
This module focuses on basic reading and writing skills. Words for global reading are drawn from various genres of familiar text comprising jokes, riddles, signs, posters, nursery rhymes, songs, stories, and labels. Finally, children become aware that reading is both a source of new information and enrichment and a pleasure-filled activity.
